The life of a little boy of only 3 years and 9 months in Galati depends on a sum of money that his parents cannot afford. Diagnosed with a hemiparesis that also affects his hands, the child must be operated on urgently in Austria, the deadline imposed by the Viennese specialists being the first week of February.
Teodor Lupea is a fighter before seeing the light of day, at just six months old, born after a series of complications. The little man, the eldest son of his parents, had to fight life more than other children. And he managed to overcome, from the first few months, the differences and end up taking the first steps like babies with whom fate did not test.
"Theodor is born prematurely at 32 weeks, had a grade 6 and a weight of 1,300 grams, stayed at the incubator with oxygen mask on his face for about a week. I was hospitalized for 38 days until it reached 2,500 grams. Every month, Teo weighed heavily, about 1,300-1,500 grams, five months later he had to weigh as much as a full-term baby," begins the story of the boy's mother, Mihaela Lupea.
The natural evolution, under the auspices of normality that had seemed to eventually set in in the lives of Teo and his parents, was to be abruptly ended in August 2016, when the little one was 2 years and 5 months old. After a holiday at sea with his parents, he had a cold and ended up in the hospital, where one morning my mother found that Teo had a stiff neck and couldn't move. Initially treated as a "current" from the air conditioning, the condition, manifested as a paralysis, worsened. Transferred to the Marie Curie Hospital in the capital, the child underwent a series of recent evaluations, tests and tests, without doctors being able to give a very clear verdict on the causes that caused him this condition.

I don't know. Easy, he started talking a little bit, asking for food, water, asking for his toys," explains Mihaela Lupea.
Saving: urgent implant
Miracles did not last long, however, because Teo's condition again showed signs of worsening, even after the long and excruciating sessions of physical therapy and swimming, in Bucharest and Galati. So, the little guy arrived in Vienna, in a clinic where, last February, doctors gave him an unexpected verdict. His problems stem from the sting of an insect, which caused his paralysis and then muscle atrophy. The prospect of a chrurgical nerve implantation interaction emerged, only the operation the Austrians expected to do even when Teo was seven years old became urgent. Early February 2018 is the deadline imposed by doctors in Vienna, otherwise Teo has the maximum chance that he will not be able to recover and remain paralyzed for life.
"In November, doctors said that the nerve implant surgery had to be done as soon as possible, that a quarter of the muscle was still alive on the right shoulder, and that's where they wanted to put the implant. Plus, there's a dead nerve, C5. They scheduled us for surgery on February 8th. The child must be admitted on the 7th, and the money, 25,000 euros, must be transferred within the first two days of the month. There's no way. Our incomes are low, we have a smaller child, and the costs of therapies for Teo have eliminated any possibility of getting this amount on their own," concludes Mihaela Lupea, Teodor's mother.
