Rebecca's story told by her mother
It is hard to understand how disease can be a sign of God's care for us - but not when we understand correctly the relationship that exists between body and soul. St. Ambrose of Optina Monastery spoke of this in a letter to a mother, whose child was very ill:"We must not forget that we live in a sophisticated age, even children are spiritually harmed by what they see or hear. Therefore, cleansing is needed, and this is achieved only through bodily suffering... we must understand that the delight of heaven is given only to the one who accepts suffering"
Holy Fathers also teach us that disease is a way to mimic the suffering of martyrs. permitted by the Lord—when He sees that disease is more necessary than health for salvation. Even for the most faithful it is hard to accept suffering as a pedagogical method of healing the soul, but even harder for a child with a righteous soul.
The fight with the disease is carried by little Rebecca, aged only 12, who, following a check-up, was diagnosed with severe scoliosis. That's how they started the heavy and tiring roads on to various specialist doctors in Romania. Following medical investigations, she was recommended to sit on physiotherapy and wear a Milwaukee corset. After a period of treatment and recovery, the results were not what Rebecca's family expected. The specialist doctor recommended surgery. The parents finally decided to go with Rebecca to linik und Poliklinik Klinikumrechts der Isar der Munchem – to Dr. Heiko Koller. But the costs (46,500 euros) are very high and far exceed the possibilities of parents. That is why I come with the great request to support them in this difficult endeavor.
