Theodora's story

Teodora is a 16-year-old from Barlad, whose first resounding success was that she finished eighth grade as head of promotion. Her above-average intelligence is recognized, her appetite for learning is never diminished, for her the holiday being the occasion of maximum boredom. With the same passion, he draws and paints. She has a sense of humor and it's not very hard to make her laugh. This is how Teodora wants to present herself to the world: a being in solidarity, with a lust for life and strong.

The only one who tries hard to contradict her is a terrible and rare disease that has strayed into her life at the age of two, but which Teo has stubbornly faced and talked about as little as possible. It's called Marfan Syndrome and its main concern is to cripple Teo, to squeeze her bones, to move her internal organs, to steal her vision, to take her breath and, if possible, her life. The ultimate goal of the perverse Marfan Syndrome is to make the aorta explode. That's how most of the people this rare disease has proven die.

Marfan syndrome affects connective tissue, i.e. the elastic tissue in the body that connects different organs to their components. This syndrome is characterized by dilation of the aorta at the base (the first part of the main artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body), dysfunction of the heart valves, dislocation of the lens, myopia and by elongation of the extremities - hands, feet. The existence of this syndrome increases the risk of development for the following conditions: scoliosis, kyphosis, deformities of the foot, the formation of a cavity in the chest.

Teodora has all this. She's had surgery twice on both eyes. The spine is so deformed (scoliosis) that the special corset that was recommended to it a few years ago has become useless. The deviation moved a kidney somewhere to the middle of his back, and at the last ultrasound a lung was never seen again. Marfan syndrome made Teo unrecognizable.

To save himself, Teodora urgently needs surgery. The amount required is EUR 12,000, plus an extra EUR 1,000, pre-operative analyses.

Without the solidarity of those who read these lines, Teo has no chance. Her family is a modest one, only the father works, the mother having to sit permanently next to her, as Teo falls off her feet when they least expect it.

Teodora wants to live, to study and, although it is an intellectual capacity, she wants to stay here in Romania to make herself available to those who need it.
