🩺 Diagnosis: Spastic tetraparesis, profound bilateral hearing loss, epilepsy, and severe speech and developmental delay.
For Nectarie, a step is not a natural gesture. It is a victory he fights for every day
I am Nectarie’s mother, and since he came into this world, my life has been divided between hospitals, therapies, medical investigations, hope, and prayer. I have learned to rejoice in things that other parents may consider natural: a new movement, a reaction, a more attentive look, or a gesture that makes me feel my boy is trying to reach me.
For other mothers, the first “mom” is a moment that comes naturally. I am still waiting for it. I am waiting for the day when Nectarie will be able to call me, the day when he will be able to tell me that something hurts, that he is hungry, that he is afraid, or that he needs me. I am waiting for the day when he will be able to sit up on his own, the day when he will stand up and, perhaps, one day, take his first steps.
Nectarie was diagnosed with spastic tetraparesis, profound bilateral hearing loss, epilepsy, and severe speech and developmental delay. At around just 7 months of age, epileptic seizures began, and for us, months and years of fear, medical journeys, and challenges followed. Today, the epilepsy is under control, but his battle is far from over.
Because of his profound bilateral hearing loss, Nectarie needed a cochlear implant, a procedure performed on December 20, 2025. For us, that moment meant enormous hope, but an implant does not mean that a child immediately begins to hear, understand, and speak. It is only the beginning of a long journey, requiring a great deal of work, therapy, and patience.
At present, Nectarie still does not speak, does not communicate through gestures, sounds, or pictures, and is unable to understand instructions. He cannot sit up on his own and cannot walk. He permanently needs our help, wears diapers, and uses a wheelchair, walker, orthoses, and a brace for mobility and body support.
He has already undergone surgery for bilateral inguinal hernia and a myofibrotomy procedure in Chișinău, and his medical journey continues because he also needs another surgical intervention. At the same time, he regularly attends physiotherapy and speech therapy, and doctors and therapists have also recommended specialized forms of rehabilitation that can give him the chance to progress.
For the next 12 months, Nectarie needs an intensive therapy program worth €50,000. This includes 208 Cuevas Medek Exercises physiotherapy sessions, 600 Medek – CME therapy sessions, and 550 sessions using the Padovan method. In total, there are 1,358 therapy sessions in a single year.
To some, these may seem like just numbers. To me, every session means a new attempt for my child. Maybe one day he will be able to support his body better. Maybe on another day, a new reaction will appear. Maybe he will manage to sit on his own. Maybe he will begin to understand more of what is happening around him. Maybe, one day, he will take his first step. And I live with the hope that the day will also come when I hear him say “mom.”
As a mother, I would give anything to take all of his pain upon myself. I would do the therapies in his place, endure the surgeries and all the challenges he has to go through, just so that he could have an easier childhood. But I cannot. All I can do is hold his hand, carry him forward, seek the best solutions, and never give up.
My greatest fear is not that his journey is long and difficult. I am prepared to walk it alongside him, for as long as necessary. My greatest fear is knowing that there are therapies that could help him, but that we may be forced to stop them because we can no longer afford to continue.
How can a mother say, “this is as far as I can go,” when her own child is in front of her and she knows that every day of rehabilitation can matter?
I cannot give up.
That is why I am asking for your help. The €50,000 represents an enormous amount for our family, impossible for us to cover alone, but together it can become possible. Every donation, regardless of its value, can bring Nectarie closer to another therapy session, another day of rehabilitation, another chance.
I am not asking you to change his life on your own. I am only asking you to help us continue.
I will continue to lift him when his body cannot. I will continue taking him to therapy, hoping, praying, and believing in every small improvement. Because beyond all the diagnoses, I see my child. I see my boy who deserves to hear the world around him, to be able to communicate, to stand up and, one day, to walk.
Please, from the bottom of your hearts, help Nectarie benefit from this year of rehabilitation. We need €50,000 to continue the therapies on which his progress depends.
Every donation matters, and every share can carry his story further, to the person who can lend us a helping hand.
And if one day Nectarie manages to stand up and take his first step, I will know that within that step lies a part of the kindness of every person who chose not to pass by his story indifferently.
With gratitude and with the hope of a mother who will fight until the end for her child,
