The "Save a Heart" association, courtesy of people with a soul, has provided little Gabriel Geambasu with recovery treatment by the end of 2015.
Thank you!
Recovery treatment: Craiova
He turned 7 on the day of the Great Great Father. And it was supposed to be a big celebration, with his parents, grandparents and sister by his side, with friends singing "Happy Birthday!" to him. He should have entered the preparatory class on the threshold of September, learned to calligraphy canes and circles, redrawing his childhood. But none of this was meant to happen. It wasn't meant to happen... since his birth. The story of Gabriel-Marian Geambaşu, the child who will never round letters, is sad and begins from the moment of his birth. The day he received the first and only note of his life: 0. Zero!
The sacrifice of a mother
Yes, when he came into the world on August 15, 2007, he was given the note: 0. He did not breathe, he did not move, and after the long resuscitation efforts, he would enter life fragile and alone. Giving birth to him, his mother died. Gabriela-Victoria Geambaşu struggled to give birth, naturally, while the on-call doctor was somewhere, in a place where several employees of the hospital in Craiova were celebrating the birthday of some of them. She pushed him into the world with her last powers, giving her last breath. She just left her name, Gabriel/Gabriela, instead of comfort.
Born in terrible conditions, the child would never be normal. Lack of oxygen at birth led to an extremely harsh diagnosis: cerebral palsy.
Shortly after my mother's funeral, the tragic little boy who came into the world was left without a father. Overwhelmed, perhaps, by the unexpected situation, he did not know how to cope with the situation and went out into the world. They're behind... two souls. Two, because in the Geambaşu family, five before, another child had been born: Mihaela Andreea. She, Mihaela, now a fifth-grade student at a school in Craiova, is the one who sent us an emotional letter to the newsroom, which I have chosen to give you back in full. It's a desperate cry for help, but also a warm testimony of the efforts my grandmother made over the past six years to raise these two children.
A sister's love
About six years ago, on August 15, my mother gave birth to my brother with great weight, with great pain, and she passed away on the birth table. My grandmother, who raised us both and has been taking care of us since my father left us, going to Italy, told me that the doctor didn't take care of Mommy at birth and that since then she's been trying to do justice for my brother. Some people tried to prevent her, but Grandma went ahead, moving forward with the trial so far. I think he'd need help here, too, he fought hard to pay the lawyer.
My little brother was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis at birth. We were staying in the country, at Seaca de Camp, but my grandmother struggled and, although she no longer had a job, because she had to give it up when my father left us, she managed to rent an apartment in Craiova to take Gabriel to recovery sessions, to treatment, to the doctor. But he's doing very hard, especially since his meds and his pampers cost a lot.
Gabriel can't even eat normally, so he has to take care of his food. He can barely handle the rent every month and what else he has to pay. I'm trying to help her, too, looking for newspapers that would like to publish our story. He can hear a good man who'll feel sorry for my little brother and send him help.
My brother needs medication, help with treatment, pampers, grandma says he needs to see another specialist, and she needs help to pay rent, maintenance and take care of me. Se zhe's beating to win the trial for my brother and he's telling me that he's hoping he'll be able to give us a better life and that we won't have to suffer that much anymore. She promised me that even though Dad left us, and Mommy's gone, she'd always be there for us and never let us. And I know it is. Please support her, especially since I'd really like to see my brother walk and talk and laugh, and my grandmother won't see her sighing and crying all day. My little brother lasted a long time for six years. With your help, he could smile at us once."
Giving a grandmother
From the vraf of documents attesting to the condition suffered by Gabriel-Marian Geambaşu, I note the diagnosis: "Cerebral palsy Tetraparesis spastic Symptomaic epilepsy". The child doesn't move, he doesn't sit on his ass, he eats nothing but liquid food or wet pasta. His grandmother, Mariana Nedelcu, carries him permanently in her arms. He only rests when and when, when Andreea takes over the duties of... mother and nurse. When she was younger, she says, she wanted to be a cop, or a prosecutor, or a judge. To do justice in the world. Now, becoming more and more responsible for her little brother's life, she would like to become a doctor, find the miracle cure and cure him. Despite the hardships, despite the fact that they often barely have anything to eat, Andreea Mihaela Geambaşu strives to learn well. So he can go to that medical school he dreams of... Although her letter doesn't show that, you understand that now, at the beginning of September, it also takes a lot of books, supplies, backpacks... But he didn't ask for anything for her. She learned from her grandmother what giving means... But isn't that too hard a lesson for an 11-year-old?
The message imgoted from Andreea is about a severely disabled child who needs special (and expensive) care, about a grandmother able to fight non-stop for her children's children. In fact, the message is about a family on the brink of a social and economic chasm. It's not a one-off. But it's a case we know about and in which we can intervene, even with a small donation.
