🌸 Sofia – a fighter who needs us! 🌸
Sofia's story began on May 18, 2023, when she came into the world much too early, at just 27 weeks, with her twin sister. She was so small, weighing only 850 grams, that her life depended entirely on the incubator and medical devices.
On the third day of life, Sofia became unstable and needed intubation and mechanical ventilation. She went through terrible moments, and the doctors also discovered two intraventricular hemorrhages. The days and nights were a relentless fight for life, but after 100 days spent in the hospital, Sofia managed to get home.
For a while, it seemed that her evolution was good. However, in the spring of 2024, the parents began to notice the differences: the twin sister was already able to sit alone, while Sofia still couldn't. Medical investigations confirmed the painful diagnosis: spastic paraparesis, a neurological condition that affects her muscle tone and prevents her from developing normal mobility.
Since then, the family has been fighting alongside Sofia through intense physical therapy sessions. The little girl makes huge efforts, she has small progress, but the big dream is to be able to walk alone. Currently, she only travels in a quadrupedic and needs two physiotherapy procedures daily, for a quick and efficient recovery.
💙 The amount needed for a year of treatment and recovery is 21,120 euros.
