Help Amalia have a pain-free childhood!
Amalia is a 12-year-old girl, full of dreams and simple desires, as any child of her age should have. She wants to run, to be able to jump without pain, to play with friends and to forget about the worries that, for a year and a half, have darkened her childhood. At the age of 11, her family received the news that changed their lives forever – Amalia suffers from thoracolumbar idiopathic scoliosis, and her spine, day by day, curves more and more, turning every movement into a challenge.
This disease, which for many is just a medical word, meant a series of sufferings for Amalia. At first, a 32-degree thoracic and 40-degree lumbar angle, which the parents hoped to be able to correct through therapy. Every day, Amalia undergoes physical therapy, struggles to maintain a smile, wears the rigid Cheneau corset, even if it limits her movements and makes her feel different. But instead of seeing any improvement, her family received another painful news: her spine had reached an angle of 52 degrees thoracic and 59 degrees lumbar. All the effort, all the hope, all the attempts seem to collapse when the numbers continue to rise.
Today, Amalia's only chance is a complex surgery, recommended by the specialists at Monza Hospital. It is a hope that comes with an overwhelming price – 24,700 euros, an amount that her family cannot cover alone.
"Every mother wants to see her child happy, but for me, every day is a battle between hope and pain. Amalia is my light, a gentle child full of dreams, but for a year and a half I have seen her slowly fade under the burden of this disease. It breaks my heart to see her fight every day – to hide her tears when the corset squeezes her body, to try to do the exercises when every muscle is shaking with fatigue. We tried everything, we prayed at each visit for the doctors to tell us that there was an improvement... but, instead, we only heard that the disease was progressing.
I can't even describe how it feels as a mother when you find out that the only solution for your child is an expensive operation. I would give anything, anything to see her well, to know her healthy, to see her that she can walk without fear, without pain. My soul would be reassured just knowing that Amalia would be able to enjoy her childhood without this burden. But, unfortunately, this amount is beyond our powers. I beg you, people with a big heart, help me to give Amalia a chance. Any help, any gesture of kindness means hope for us," the young woman's mother told us
Today, Amalia needs people to support her, people to offer her a pain-free future. No matter how small your donation is, it can bring this life-saving operation closer to reality. It's the only chance for Amalia to be a child like everyone else, to be able to laugh, play, go to school without the burden of this disease.
