Unique concept in Europe. Disabled beach in Constanta
Starting with the 2018 summer season, Constanta will be the first city in Europe to have a beach specially designed for people with disabilities. The project is initiated by psychologist Adrian Gemanaru, nominated for the World Autism Festival for the development of recovery therapies for children with autism, as well as other disabilities.
Due to the fact that several children with disabilities for whom the Association "Save a Heart" contributed financially to carry out therapeutic sessions at the "Black Sea" Center, we have a beautiful friendship with psychologists and physiotherapists of this center. Remaining impressed by this project very useful for society, we have decided to join the fundraising process.
The beach sector in the North Cliff area, spread over a total area of 22,000 sqm and with a sea opening of 200 meters, is provided by the Dobrogea-Litoral Basin Administration for therapeutic activities, organized by the "Black Sea" Center in Constanta. The therapeutic park will comprise two areas of sun loungers (100 seats), two sheets areas (1,000 seats), access ramps, an event stage, a relaxing sensory garden, a hydration point, two playgrounds, a hearing stimulation area and one for visual and tactile stimulation, a sensory alley, a pottery workshop, floating mobile chairs for people with disabilities and a first aid tent.
Pottery workshop and sensory alley
The pottery workshop is one of the most useful therapeutic activities for finger mobility and for improving the stabilisation of the joints of the upper limbs. The pottery area will be surrounded by a sensory alley, on which tourists will be able to walk barefoot, on wooden stumps, mat, river stones, bark, lawn, beans, activity that greatly increases attention and satisfies the human need to merge with nature.
Floating trolleys and areas of auditory and visual stimulation
For people with locomotor difficulties, the project organizers will install, on the beach, an access ramp made of a special material, which will allow them to move easily. Disabled people will also benefit from 3 floating mobile carts to enjoy the sea water.
Children with a number of sensory difficulties will benefit from two special areas: auditory stimulation (musical instruments adapted for the outside) and visual and tactile stimulation, which will give them the opportunity to experience the surrounding world through the three senses.
Project organisers have the support of the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Environment
The implementation of this project requires a budget of around 100,000 Euros. In this respect, the "Black Sea" Centre in Constanta is asking for the support of the people involved in tourism, the local authorities, on the grounds that the Project on the Black Sea shore is one of national interest, since the number of people with disabilities represents about 1 million people in the Romanian population, and the need for such a space dedicated to them is vital. For the implementation of the project, the Black Sea Center received the support of the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Environment.
Access to existing facilities will be provided to children with special needs, persons with disabilities and their families free of charge.
