Save a heart

We owe it to ourselves, even if we do not have the material possibility, to help. We can do it with a good thought, prayer, or encouragement. Let us bear one another's infirmities and send love to those in great suffering! I believe that even through true, non-hypocritical love, we can be saved, with God's mercy. Our children, Antonia and David, suffer from a rare mitochondrial disease caused by the SUCLG1 genetic mutation, accompanied by profound bilateral hearing loss, which severely affects all their bodily functions. They require daily special treatment, recovery therapies, and permanent care for absolutely all their needs – from drinking water, eating pureed food, to being changed and so much more 🥹 – while we live each day under the constant fear and stress of coping with all these challenges. Your involvement, especially when we traveled with them to Canada for a medical study, was of immeasurable help. Your gesture brought light and hope into our lives! Scoliosis affected not only her spine, but also her self-confidence. We lived with heavy hearts and the fear that time was working against us. 💬 When we found out that she urgently needed surgery, the costs overwhelmed us. We didn’t know which way to turn. But then something happened that we will never forget: kind-hearted people—both those we knew and complete strangers—started to support us. 💬 We are deeply grateful to the “Save a Heart” Association, which made this life-saving intervention possible. Their support was essential. We thank all the donors—whether they gave a small or large amount, every gesture mattered. We are profoundly thankful to our relatives, Andreea’s teachers, her schoolmates, and close friends who stood by us during the hardest times. 💬 With special gratitude, we thank Dr. Engin Çetin, who performed the surgery with professionalism and care, and the translators from “Liv Hospital” – for their support, their patience, and for making us feel understood in a foreign country and during deeply emotional moments. 💬 The surgery was a success, and today Andreea walks with a straight back and a smile on her face. We’re happy to see her dreaming again and becoming the cheerful little girl she once was. I had back pain, I couldn’t do certain activities like other kids, and the constant worry about my posture and how my back looked became a burden. I was afraid of the future and felt different. The surgery completely changed my life. It was an experience that taught me how important courage is. It showed me what I can achieve and how strong I can be. The support I received from the “Save a Heart” association meant everything to me. Without their help, and the support of my relatives, friends, and all the people who chose to be part of my story, this intervention might not have been possible. They gave me not just practical help, but also confidence, hope, and the feeling that I’m not alone. They were there for me exactly when I needed it most. Now I feel joy and peace. I feel better, more confident, and I can once again enjoy the simple things—without fear. My message to other children or adults going through this is: Have faith! Even if it seems hard, you are not alone. With the right support, everything can change for the better.

At first, we didn’t know who to turn to or who we could tell our story to for help, until we gathered our courage and reached out to Mr. Vlad Plăcintă and the association “Save a Heart.” When we told Mr. Vlad about Cosmina’s situation, he guided us to a clinic in Turkey. In the beginning, we had no hope and no support, but thanks to the “Save a Heart” Association, we were given a chance at life and the help we desperately needed. We thank them wholeheartedly for listening to us and standing by our side. Today, thanks to Mr. Vlad Plăcintă and “Save a Heart,” Cosmina is a grown young lady and has been given the chance for a new life!
